Well since I uploaded that other thing dealing with gender here's the conlang I'm working on, one of very very many...

This is Ôrnêstán, the writing system of (you guessed it) Ôrnês. The suffix -tán is applied to the end of a race name as a catch-all for "language." Ôrnêstán is the dominant language I'm using in my novel, basically because it's the main language the protagonist speaks with fluency. Also, Ôrnês are one of the main antagonists, so I've basically not three languages I absolutely have to figure out.

Anywhozit, I had to completely redo the alphabet since the first one I made back in middle school (yuck) and a lot has changed in terms of pronunciation and how many letters there are. So I made these with a brush pen and I need more practice. hrrg

I have another example with more info on how things work. But I still need to work on it so it's not much. xD

I like the brush-pen.
Hmm, Any chance of getting international phonetic symbols on this thing. I don't know what you mean, for example, by nn (is it palatal?)

I'll have to look into those, since I don't actually know the sounds in the international phonetic symbols very well, but I'm sure they exist.

The nn (an similar) is more for my guidance than anyone else's, since I had an archaic system of pronouncing I've modified with those new accented Latin letters. But I'm still not used to the new system since I assigned them only this year, so I need something that relates to my old system so I can remember. xD

If you see a word you don't know, just combine two and look them up (for example unvoiced velar fricative) on wikipedia. You'll get an explanation and a handy sound file so you can hear it.

Awesome-sauce! I'll save that, thank you! And since you brought that up I was able to find a website with audio examples of everything so it looks like I'm all set. :] Now I can get down to some serious linguistics! ò3ó

In addition to [link] right here on devart, I recommend this guy [link] as a good (free) authority on designing interesting languages. A more authorial authority is [link] who actually wrote a book on the subject (it's lovely and hilarious).

For more "real" linguistics, check out [link] and [link]. They're like crossword puzzles for linguists, and solving them will give you a good background in different kinds of possible grammar systems (however keep in mind that these are all human grammars, and as such (probably) obey certain basic rules that we're born with. Aliens might be different.) A good book on the subject of human language is [link]. Another on how languages evolve is [link].

Eeeeeee made up languages!!! I adore these! I have my own made up language and a separate written language, but still all very basic. Maybe someday I'll have a motivation to develop them more. Great job with these, me like.

Yes yes conlangs are the best and so much fun! I have a good time thinking up how they might work. I'd say it's easier for someone with more than one language under their belt, since you can mix language rules more easily and absorb new ones. I'm still struggling to learn German, which is mainly wnat Ornes is borrowing from. But at least I'm making progress. xD

I'd love to see examples of what you've developed of yours. :]
