A sketch I still need to finish, trying to work out the basic anatomy of a hunter-gatherer race called the Zêüwát.
The "Night Fires" would be aurora borealis, which are visible throughout the northern part of the their range. Zêüwát are semi nomadic, moving with the seasons, at least with those that are on the continent Tápŗén. The Tápŗén groups move north in the summer and south in the winter, with the eb and flow of plant life and migration their prey. Those groups that inhabit the smaller continent of Ĵímtábt and its islands have a more settled, agrarian and sea-going society (Though many inland groups still travel north and south as tradition rather than necessity).
I'll write more about them and show an example of their range once I've finished the picture. :]
When I first made them they looked basically like werewolves... So I obviously needed to change that. I need more six-limbed creatures so I decided hey, let's give them some more arms. But couldn't give them too human-like of a shape, so that why they have the weird snakey torso, which I'm quite pleased with. Also tried to make them look less WOOF like in the face. Now they remind me more of a weasel. If not, well, at least I'm satisfied with them. o3o
Females have tits, still deciding how many and if they're at all noticeable when they aren't nursing young. I'm leaning towards yes- since no other matriarchal societies on Qîélá are bipedal and bipedalism sort of seems like the main reason humans evolved prominent breasts. Also I like tits.
Yay tits. And I like! Very! These guys looks like they could be good climbers. Actually, a spine that long looks uncomfortable for walking entirely upright. The legs seem built for running, like a dog's, but it feels as though the long torso and the other four limbs could get in the way, and with those digitigrade legs they could have trouble balancing. Then again, maybe their planet has very low gravity... And should they have bigger brains? I actually love how these guys look right now, just liked to point out this stuff in case you were interested in making them supah-realistic Maybe it gives you ideas.
You're clever! In fact, they're not strictly bipedal, when they really want to go fast they go for the four-legged gallop; that stride is immense compared to just their back legs so they can cover short distances quicker, say after prey. Running upright on those legs they'd probably tip over with all that up top, so they really only walk and trot upright. xD Also, since this guy is squatting, he's a bit more squished down and his back is more relaxed, when walking upright they wouldn't have that deep of a sway back on the upper torso. I'll have to do some body studies to work it all out but their backs are pretty flexible, they have more vertebrae than humans obviously. When they sat I envisioned the bottom half leaning back a bit, so the front would lean forward to place the weight more evenly centered. Haaa I need to do studies, it all makes sense in my head. *pulls at face*
I'm a little more lenient with skull size in relation to body, mainly because they're aliens and since I figure they wouldn't have the same head-body-brain ratio as humans, but could still have brains big and complex enough for aware and abstract thought. Despite their long jaws they don't have huge, powerful jaw muscles, which is one of the factors in smaller brain size. Their bark is worse than their bite, basically. lol I figure it happened along the same lines of humans learning to use tools to work with and hunt food and thus not needing powerful bites like other members of the ape family. Basically all of the tool using species on Qiela will fit into that.
ANYWAY, it is mostly a preliminary sketch, I'll keep your points in mind as I keep working. Thank you! :3
